Vertical Events Kick Off Nationals!

The 2016 USPA National Skydiving Championships of Formation Skydiving and Artistic Events kicked off Thursday, October 21, at Skydive Arizona in Eloy with the 2-way mixed formation skydiving event.

The event included 19 teams, eight in open and 11 in advanced. Last year’s open national champ Flite Shop reclaimed its title, followed closely by last year’s advanced gold medalist Eagle Bear in second and Skydive California Sexy Chocolate Chip in third. In the advanced class, Air Force Superbad took gold, followed by HardPoints in second and Thunderstix in third. In addition, Taft Hush Hush set a new national female record in 2-way MFS with 10 points in round four.

Following completion of the MFS event on Friday, 10 4-way vertical formation skydiving teams took to the air—six in open and four in advanced. The VFS event will continue through Saturday.

Starting Sunday, formation skydiving will take over, kicking of with 4-way, followed by 8-, 10- and 16-way throughout the week. Later in the week will be the artistic events of freestyle and freeflying, leading into the drop zone’s Halloween boogie next weekend.
