The U.S. Parachute Team has won the first two gold medals at the 2016 Fédération Aéronautique Internationale World Parachuting Championships Mondial! Team USA has claimed the world champion title in 8-way and vertical formation skydiving. Team USA—SDC Core in VFS and the U.S. Army Golden Knights in 8-way—decisively won the two events.

The Mondial kicked off Sunday, September 11, at Skydive Chicago in Ottawa, Illinois, drawing nearly 800 athletes from 38 countries for the Olympics of skydiving. The event began with the opening ceremony held at the local high school. The ceremony featured a parade of nations and a skydiving demo with Team Fastrax flying in a 5,000-foot American flag.

Competition began at sunrise Monday and will continue until the closing ceremony on September 20, as skydivers—including the nearly 80-member U.S. Parachute Team—vie for the title of world champion in five disciplines: formation skydiving (4-way, 8-way and vertical), canopy formation (2- and 4-way sequential and 4-way rotations), freefall style & accuracy landing, artistic events (freeflying and freestyle) and speed skydiving.
