On July 12, the world’s best canopy pilots ascended the podium to claim their medals at The World Games 2022 in Birmingham, Alabama. The U.S.’s Nicholas Batch proudly earned the silver for the event, which awarded overall medals for combined scores in speed, distance, accuracy and freestyle. His U.S. Canopy Piloting Teammates—Curt Bartholomew, Jeannie Bartholomew, Robin Jandle, Travis Mills, Justin Price, Matt Shull and Greg Windmiller—represented the country well. France’s Cedric Veiga Rios took the gold and the United Arab Emirate’s Abdulbari Qubaisi took the bronze in a field of 34 competitors.

The 10-day, multi-sport World Games drew more than 3,600 elite athletes from 100 countries to compete in various sporting disciplines—including lacrosse, kickboxing, billiards, canopy piloting and 30 others—in the Olympics-style event. The International World Games Association, under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee, holds the games every four years, generally the year after the Summer Olympics. The U.S. Canopy Piloting Team—always a major contender on the world stage—put in top performances in the individual events.
